Cure for Addiction?

Hopefully one day….

Scientists at the Ernest Gallo Clinic and Research Center at UC San Francisco are reporting having been able to identify and block the brain circuit linked to memories that cause alcohol cravings in rats; this finding may lead to treatments for individuals struggling with alcohol and drug addiction.

According to Dr. Barak, the lead researcher, cravings are caused by memories which are triggered by certain environmental cues such as an alcohol ad on TV, walking into a bar, etc.

The study was published online in Nature Neuroscience.
